A representative of the UK-based Codemasters has confirmed to Eurogamer that the company has begun a consultation period to determine whether or not to lay off a portion of its staff.
It’s a response to reports that the long-standing developer and publisher is considering axing as many as 50 positions (mostly designer and artist roles, according to Eurogamer’s source) and it suggests that Codemasters — which last year made a show of shifting gears and refocusing development goals in response to fan feedback about its GRID racing game franchise — is struggling.
“As Codemasters continues its programme of strategic realignment in line with market changes, the company has reviewed its current structures to focus on areas of increased importance and decrease resources in areas where work requirements have been reduced,” reads the statement obtained by Eurogamer.
“As a result of this review, a small number of roles have been proposed as being at risk of redundancy.”
The company launched both Grid Autosport and F1 2014 on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 last year, but has yet to release a game for either Sony or Microsoft’s current consoles.
