Rovio has announced that it’s opening a new office in the Toronto area.
Rovio Toronto will be headed up by Julie Beaugrand. Beaugrand has been working as a studio manager and executive producer in the casual mobile space for the last decade, having shipped games like Disney: Magic Kingdoms and Lego Legacy: Heroes Unboxed.
Rovio Toronto will continue to be part of the company’s focus on free-to-play casual mobile games.
This is the second Canadian studio for the Finnish developer, which also has offices in Sweden and Denmark. After a few years of falling revenue as the shine of Angry Birds has faded away, the company has made some major directional shifts over the last year.
In January, it shut down game streaming service Hatch, while in June, it acquired the exclusive rights to develop games based on the Swedish comic Moomin. It also bought up hyper-casual developer Ruby Games in August.
